George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States. He was sworn into office on January 20, 2001, re-elected on November 2, 2004, and sworn in for a second term on January 20, 2005. Prior to his Presidency, President Bush served for 6 years as the 46th Governor of the State of Texas, where he earned a reputation for bipartisanship and as a compassionate conservative who shaped public policy based on the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, strong families, and local control.
A fifth generation Texan, Governor Rick Perry has taken an extraordinary Texas journey, from a tenant farm along the rolling plains of West Texas to the governor’s office of our nation’s second largest state. Texas’ 47th governor, and the first Texas A&M graduate to occupy the Texas Governor’s Mansion, Rick Perry has led a life of public service, serving four and a half years in the United States Air Force, and nearly two decades in elected office as a state representative, commissioner of agriculture, lieutenant governor and now governor.
Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is a native Texan, proud veteran, successful businessman, and rancher. He serves as President of the Texas Senate and is proud of the broad support he has earned during his tenure as Lieutenant Governor. A fiscal conservative, Dewhurst has worked to balance two budget shortfalls without increasing the overall tax burden on Texans and to keep the annual growth of the General Revenue budget to less than inflation, while funding essential services for society's most vulnerable--children, the elderly, and the frail.
John Cornyn, of San Antonio, is a voice for Texas values in Washington. He was sworn in to the U.S. Senate on December 2, 2002, succeeding Phil Gramm. Sen. Cornyn continues to take a leading role on many issues in the Senate. He is committed to bolstering America’s national defense and homeland security, working to strengthen the economy and grow jobs, making health care more accessible, and improving educational opportunity for all Texans.
In 1993, Texans elected Kay Bailey Hutchison to the United States Senate in a special election, making her the first woman elected to represent the state in the Senate. One year later, she was re-elected to a full six-year term. And in 2000, more than four million Texans voted for her re-election to a second full term-at the time, no candidate in Texas history had ever captured more votes. She serves in the Senate leadership, having been elected by her colleagues to be vice chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, making her the fifth-highest ranking Republican senator.
Randy Neugebauer represents the 19th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Currently in his second term, he took office on June 5, 2003, following a run-off election to decide who would be only the fourth representative from this district. He serves on the House Committees on Agriculture and Financial Services. Prior to his election, Randy served as the President and CEO of Lubbock Land Company, a residential and commercial land development company which created many successful subdivisions in Lubbock.
King was born into a fifth generation Houston family, attended Houston public schools and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston. Her Texas political roots also run deep since she is a descendant of the family of Francis R. Lubbock, 9th Governor of Texas. Interested in improved communications and community engagement, she ran unopposed twice for the Abilene Independent School District Board of Trustees in 1998 and 2002 and was eventually elected school board president. With the retirement of Bob Hunter, State Representative District 71, she sensed an even greater opportunity for service and was elected to that office which represents Taylor and Nolan counties. King, a Republican, is serving in her first legislative session.
Troy Fraser was elected in 1996 to serve Senate District 24, a 21-county region that is located in the geographic center of Texas. Since his election in 1996, Senator Fraser has been consistently ranked by leading organizations, including Texas Association of Business and the Young Conservatives of Texas, as one of the most conservative members of the Texas Senate for his voting record on fiscal and social issues.
Norm Alchibald was elected Mayor of Abilene in 2004. He recieved his Masters degree from both Abilene Christian University and Texas A&M University. He currently serves as the Vice President of Hendrick Hospital. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Boy Scouts of America, Neighborhoods in Progress, and the Abilene Business and Estate Planning Council.
